Ok, so I have been pondering this question for a while now, because of two reasons:

1) My gas millage seems low, even considering how hard I get on it, etc

2) The cover on my rear dif (where the gears go) seems to be a (newer) aluminum cover, and doesnt match up to any of hte other metal on the diff. Should this plate be the same old/rust color or should it still be almost silver?

There is absolutely no way that anyone here can give a guess as to your gears based on your "Poor" gas mileage or the differential cover. The diff. cover is cheap, so someone could have just replaced it, or maybe it just happens to be very clean...

If you really want an easy answer, throw out some RPMs at certain speeds/gears.

stock gears for your car should be 3.55's. At 70 mph you should be turning roughly 2000 RPMs.

HA, I just learned this) Pick a spot on your tire and watch it. Then, turn your drive shaft and count how many times it goes around for your wheel to make one rotation. That is what your gears are. Example: driveshaft goes around something like 3 3/4 times; you have 3.73 gears (3.75 to be exact) Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

NOTE: Ya might want to put the rear end on jack standsor something to do this

3.55's came in cobras and mach1's also, new edge gt's came with 3.27.



to the op... do the ole turn the wheel and count the driveshaft rotation.

Not that I had time on my hands, but I found it hard to believe that ANY of these guys on here would tell you that.....Searched your posts about your rear end noise and new 3.83 (??) gears.....You were the one that said 3.55. Nobody corrected you on your miscue.......and certainly NOBODY told you that stockers were 3.55
Do not get mad and pissy at these guys on the forums....They are here to HELP you FREE OF CHARGE and the lack of gratitude towards them is not good at all. Hope you learn from EVERY post made or read because that is what this FORUM is here for.........LEARNING!!!!!

Do the driveshaft test.....hell, I thought the same thing with my car and guess what???????

look it up on ur cars specs on the net but pretty sure they are 3:27's because I think my Automatic is 2:73 isent that right for the autos?
