Default What oil pressure (psi) runs the motor

I am planning in putting in a auto meter warninig light in my 2000 gt mustang and need to know what oil pressure runs the motor so i can selectthe correct oil pressure sender fot the warning light.
pressure sender 15 psi , 30 psi , 50 psi.
and how will it work like ifthe oilpressure of the motorfalls under the amount of the selected switch it will light up.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that 9 PSI is far too low. I read that a couple days ago. So at lest you know it's somewhere well above the 10 psi mark.

anything over 15 psi is safe.

It's also hard to say because you don't need as much oil pressure at idle as you do at WOT. A warning light isn't really helpful since your pump is more than likely not going to die at idle, so while 20 psi might be ok at idle, if you had 20 PSI at throttle, you'd be in trouble.

The factory spec for oil pressure, wih the engine hot,is 20 to 45 psi at 1500 RPM.The OEM oil pressure sensor (really a switch) opens at 6-8 psi--just before the engine siezes up...With a cold engine and cold oil you may see pressures as high a 90-100 psi, at normal cruising speeds 45-60 psi would be normal...

Well, if you get the 50 psi switch the warning lite will likely be on unless the engine's running 4000 rpm or better; with the 30 psi switch the light would probably be on at any engine speed of less than 2500 rpm; and with the 15 psi switch it may flicker at idle with a hot engine--so you decide.BTW, you already have a "low oil pressure" warning indicator--that's what the stock fake gauge and sender do, when the pressure drops below 6 to 8 psi the gauge drops to zero. If the Autometer light can be wired to come on whena switch connected to ground opens, then you could just tap into the stock sender's wire and it would come on when the pressure is < 6-8 psi...
