My research shows a 97 Cobra running a 14.0 in the 1/4, and they list the 2000GT at 14.2, which sounds accurate. It would take approx 20 - 25 more hp or a better suspension / traction setup to run with him, assuming his car is stock. With your mods (which I really don't know for sure), I would say you will be right on him.

Get him from a light, if the Cobra motor in 97 was DOHC, from a roll he will mop the floor with you

Hey guys, what about a 99 Cobra? I know someone in town who has one and I've been reluctant to look for him at night!

If the guy with the cobra can drive and itaint gotalot of miles racked up on it I would say the Gt would lose. But if the cobra has many miles on it that would greatly effect the performance, which would make him lose.

If you do proper maitnance..and keep the ignition system in top shape, it won't matter how many miles are on the motor, you may lose 1-5 hp through it's entire life span...but with an automatic, they get tired and start slipping...etc etc. With a 5 speed, your chances of never losing hp are increased

Get him from a light and pray for traction!
