Default DOHC swap into a GT

ok a buddy at work just showed me an ad in the paper of a guy selling a DOHC 4.6 longblock i think with 30k miles including a wiring harness for 500 bucks. condition unknown at this point im gonna call the guy up tomorrow.

what would it take for me to swap this into my gt? i dont know exactly what car its from originally (is a cobra motor a smallblock btw?).

i wasnt really planning on motor swapping but if its a cobra motor for 500$ in working condition then why not. im going blower sometime early next year if all goes well reguardless of the swap.

A cobra motor for $500 sounds like a scam! Prob a Mark VII block, 6 bolt crank skank. It's a stright forward swap as long as it's complete with wiring harness and computer. Exhaust will bolt righ up and everything is interchangeable. I did mine in 2 days with the install of LT headers as well. What a Pian in the *** they wee. You think it's tight with a 2v...pppfffttt you've got another thing comin! all mod motors are small blocks

hmm. yeah like i said ill call the guy up tomorrow and find out what exactly it came out of. crank skank? is that bad? what is it? (motor nub)

is it worth the money and time to do this? i dont think its got an ecu but as long as that isnt outrageously priced then whatever i can prob junk yard one somewhere.

my car's a stick also so would there be any complications if it was a mark 7 motor? i know nothing of motor swaps (i.e. would i have to convert to an automatic to do this? or will this literally bolt up to my car as is with no modifications to anything, just bolt it down plug stuff in and go?)

If you already have a manual then it should be fine but youll need a flywheel and clutch. Ive done the 4v swap its very tight you will probably look at the engine and the car and think no way in hell..

Guy i bought my fox from bought a 97 gt and is putting a cobra motor in it. He sent the motor off and had it freshened and completely worked over. While you have the motor in your gt running fine, why not build the DOHC motor to a 5.0 and cam it etc. Will be a bitch to keep pulling the motor in and out for modifications.

that's true, the only thing you can take off the 4v motors with keeping it inside the car is the intake pretty much

i wont build it atleast not right now. i dont need an 800hp street car, 4-500 range is cool with me. the 4v is already forged, i dont have a grand for cams, etc... this was more of an opportunity not really a plan. my PLAN right now is to begin working on a blower right after i get back from christmas exodus. maybe when i get my next stripe and move off base and have some money and a garage (not a dorm room) ill think about doing that.

anyone have any sites, links, information, know anyone thats done this (with a mark 8 motor), etc...?

what clutch/flywheel am i gonna need? a cobra one im guessing? if thats the case im gonna have to find a new tranny as well cuz the cobra clutches wont work with the 3650 and i donno if a 3650 clutch will work with a cobras flywheel. can anyone shed some light?
