Rear End Set up

Rear End Set up
Correct me if this is wrong. Is the pinion shim number on the head of pinion gears the thickness of the head plus the thickness of the bearing plus the apporpiate thickness of shims?

RE: Rear End Set up
There is one sure way to find out, get a dial caliper and measure it.
Are you doing your own gears? If so, just use the MHD method to calculate the pinion depth. I did this and my gears turned out great.

I don't really see why it shouldn't. A measurement is a measurment, and the gears are pretty much all the same, right? My Ford Racing gears were the ones manufactured by Motive, and mine turned out great. What gears are you using?

The pinion head is marked with PINION depth...measurment...thats the distance measured at the top of the pinion to the carrier bearing center line....
that measurement marked it WHAT is needs to be..with the pinion shim, bearings, added...The MHD method seems to be a very, easy, acurate method...Although, I actually have the correct tools needed to do it porperly without it..and have done so forever.....
answer to your question.....YES...

Ok, does the MHD method work with non ford gears. If so, I'm golden
