Im new to this site. But anyways i want to get 4.10 gears for my 98 gt 5spd but what kind? I heard that the motives gears are known to make a whining noise? Should I just spend a little bit more money and get the ford racing gears? Is there any other different brands that are good quality and not to exspensive? Also i was told that it would be smart to get the master bearing kit when changing gears and is the royal purple oil necessary or does that just make them work better? I know some of these questions may be dumb but i really dont know much about gears yet..thank you.

motive or ford racing. you pick. get the installation kit and if its a 98 i assume its got higher mileage so might as well get the bearings.

Richmond gears are really good too. Putting them in mine next week!

ford racing gears. 230$ shipped on american muscle or 170~ for the 373's. ford gears are said to be MUCH easier to install. motives (and ALL gears for that matter) only wine when they are put in wrong (which is bad...obviously). if your getting 73's or 10's i would say just stick with ford as install is easier (easier meaning faster meaning less money for the install). ford doesnt have an "off" gear like 390's so you'd have to go motive or another brand to get those.

I have heard that Richmond whine really bad. I would go with Ford racing and make sure you get someone that knows how to correctly install them.

If the gears are installed properly, they will not whine. Regardless of the brand.
