emergency brake
I had gears installed yesterday which went very well I'd say. My e-brake is not the same as it was before the install, however. I assume he disconnected it because it was in the way or something and reconnected it afterwardsbut it feels like it is easier to pull and doesn't actually keep the car from rolling on a hill unless it's in the last or second to last"click", whereas before, I just yanked it and it was fine. Now I actually have to consciously engage it and make sure the car isn't moving. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there a little slack in the line or is it something more serious?
I am changing my oil tomorrow afternoon on jackstands so that would be a good opportunity for me to try to fix this if possible. I just don't know anything about the e-brake. Could you guys help me out with any info?? Thanks!

RE: emergency brake
You just need to adjust it, I have not done this on a stang, so I am unsure of anything unique or special. I know on my old Honda, under the center console there was a bracket that controlled the pull of the e-brake. Couple turns of a nut and it was tight as usual, could be the same on the stang, I am unsure though.

RE: emergency brake
thanks for the info! do I have to remove the console to get to it? Interior pieces are usually held in place by flimsy tabs that like to break when you take them off. I haven't tried it yetso I'm just speculating but I dont want to mess anything up. Anyone actually done this and want to tell me how to do it without breaking something?

RE: emergency brake
Check under the car first since youll be under there for the oil change, so if you can find any way to adjust it under there first. I am just like you, I hate taking apart those flimsy clips. I took my shifter bezel off so many times it would move with the shifter and squeek everytime I shifted. I ended up ordering a new one and the only time itll come out is when I replace the shifter, thats it. Ill do my tranny from the bottom side before I take that 200 bezel out, thats for sure.

RE: emergency brake
The mustangs have a self adjusting mechanism(which sucks btw). When I change my cables they were were all cut up and streched out from years of use. might be time to change them. It isn't the funniest thing in the world though

RE: emergency brake
lol ok so if I'm under my car tomorrow, where do I look to find the e-brake cable? or should I just try to figure it out from the inside under the console? I guess what I'm saying is I dont know anything about the e-brake or how to go about adjusting/fixing it.

RE: emergency brake
well... the e brake cable is normally directly under where the e brake is and it goes and has a plate where it splits to 2... may have an adjustment where it splits to two cables... a gear install wouldnt cause this unless they may have only put one of the cables back on after putting it all back together? check your brakes.. check your pad life as well... my brakes were almost gone in the back and i put new pads on and it works alot better now.
