I run 20W-50 MaxLife dino oil (I ran a supercharged '90 Miata to 350k miles on this stuff), the Mustang will berunningit too when it hits 120k orwhenit starts consuming any oil between changes
is 20w50 safe to run in our engines??

Absolutely, however it depends on lowest ambient temperature mostly, 20W-50 behaves as a 20W (20 weight Winter grade) oil at 0°F and as a 50 weight oil at 200°F. 20Woil will work fine down to 15° to 20°F (see the early 90's recommended oil chart below), with a good safe cut-off point around 30°. It is rarely that cold here, and even if it is it would only be for a couple hours pre-dawn--my car is garaged and the temperature in the garage has never been lower than 40°F.This is a good source of information regarding oil grading and selection--it is not completely unbiased as it was written by SynLube, and is a difficultread because of the horrible formatting (increasing the font size on your browser will help), however it pretty much accurately shows why 5W-20 is not good for any engine operated in North America south of Juneau, AK.Also, contrary to the assertions of many, there have been no profound advances in metallurgy, manufacturing processes, or lubricant technologies (with the exception of synthetic motor oil)since the 90s--what has changed profoundly in that time are the Federal CAFE standards, meeting which is helped significantly by specifying ****-thin oil. It also means you'll get to buy a new car sooner, so it's win-win for the manufacturers...If you are going to run that stuff then by all means use synthetic, 5W-20 dino oil is only just a bit better than baby oil...

Here's a link with more info than you can use.

http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

I personally wouldn't run 20-50 oil in my 4.6 because of delays in oil getting to the cams. They are clear up on top of the engine and are about the last thing to get lubed at start-up.
The sintered iron oil pump gears are another reason.Thicker oil is harder to push through the galleries and I wouldn't want to strain those fragile gears any more than necessary.

Is 5w-20 to thin of an oil to use if you're running a Vortech? I'm new to Superchargers and the guy at Autozone told me that to thin of a weight would cause the car to smoke with my Vortech. I thought he was crazy but I used the recommended 5w-20 and my damn car is blowing white smoke.

For me, 2000GT and it recommends 5W-30, 5qts, K&N Gold oil Filter.

this may sound wierd but I recently did a synthetical oil change from dino oil using mobil 1 oil and I noticed a slight power loss ever since i changed the oil its kind of strange and im only using 5w30 so i have no clue. I'm def going back to dino oil next oil change and see if it is in fact the culprit.
