Default Oil change today...question

So I changed my oil in the Mustang for the first time today. I went with motorcraft synethic blend and a motor craft oil filter. It says to use 5w20 but all they had was 5w30 that is going to be ok right? Also it the book at the store said 6 qts. is that right.

yeah 5w20 is the recommended one, but you can always go thicker oil which in this case you did, 5w30. i actually just did an oil change today w/ Castrol GTX Synthetic Blend 5w30 because they ran out of 5w20 at Autozone :] but i used 7qts...[&:]

i run 5 30 and it seems to be doing just fine. I think ford recomended 5 30 in the 4.6s for a while, maybe until like 2000 or so.

I use 10W-30 synthetic here in Florida. It never goes much below 35° here, coldest it's been in 15 years is 28° and that was only for an hour or so just before dawn...In the other higher-mileage vehicles I run 20W-50 MaxLife dino oil (I ran a supercharged '90 Miata to 350k miles on this stuff), the Mustang will berunningit too when it hits 120k orwhenit starts consuming any oil between changes (every 2500 miles--my grandfather always said "oil is cheaper than engines").

They switched most V8s in Fords in 2001 to 5w20 for "fuel economy." HA, lol. 5w30 is fine, its just a thicker at operation temperature, your still good, I run 5w30, you should consider full synthetic for next time, nothing but the best! RP or Mobil 1, etc...
