Badging?

RE: Badging?
cobra motor swap gets you a snake imho, just leave off the SVT and its just right. If you put a 302 in there or stroke your 4.6 you can use a 5.0 badge, same idea.
Just dont swap in a 6 cyl and add on snakes and 347 badges...

RE: Badging?
my personal opinion on this topic is that if you like a certain bumper or spoiler and feel it will enhance the looks of the car to YOUR taste, go for it. HOWEVER, having a snake or SVT badge on your car that did not roll off the line as a cobra is rediculous. having any stickers or badgest advertising your car as what it is not, is rediculous... on the same not, the cobra rear bumper SAYS cobra on it... so dont put that thing on your v6 or gt... its not a cobra, dont let your bumper or badges say it is... IMO on the engine badges... well they sell them and make them aftermarket for a reason. if you have a stroker(such as i do ), then go get yourself a 5.0 or 302 badge or whatever you want. as long as you are not advertising your car as something its not (cobra motor swap imo earns you the gauge cluster, and any badging ON the motor... nota snake or svt logo on the fender or trunk. it is NOT acobra... just has te power of one lol)

RE: Badging?
Honestly, to put it simple, this is the way I look at it... Don't pretend to be something that you're not. Don't pretend to be a Cobra, when you're a GT. If you want to style your car like a Cobra, and the Cobra bumpers say Cobra... oh well, there's not much you can do about that, but leave your badges as GT. Also, being a 4v swap is no reason to put Cobra or SVT badges on the car, as before, if you need the gauges and it says it on them, then fine, but don't actually swap out your badges for snakes. Being a GT with a 4v swap is it's own thing to be proud about. You did a lot more work than most people have done to their car. Take credit for it and leave it badged as a GT, then tell people it's a 4v swap rather than pretending it's a real cobra.

RE: Badging?
Mr. Shelby has put Cobra badges on everything from a 2-seat import to a 4-cylinder Dodge. Ford is currently putting them on 4-door sedans and pickup trucks in Australia. Shelby's company will sell you everything you need to convert an 05+ GT into a GT-500 look alike except the signature plate. The originators of the Cobra are making a lot of money selling body parts and badges to home town Fobra builders.
I find it very interesting the fine line that some will draw on whether its OK to put a Cobra badge on a GT. It's OK with a 4v motor. What if the 4v is in a car that had no Cobra body parts? A plain-jane GT with a 4v.Is a superchaged 2v good enoughto warrant a Cobra badge ifit in a GT with a Cobra hood and front bumper? Probably not. Even though the s/c 2v will smoke the 4v, it doesn't meet the criteria. Right?
Actually, I understand why Cobra owners would object but that cat's has been out of the bag a long time and splitting hairs over when its OK and when its not is just plain silly.

RE: Badging?
People have been building clones of popular models for decades.
Hell, even on the Barrett Jackson auctions they are selling very nice clones of Shelby's, Hemi 'Cudas, Roadrunners, Yenko's, etc.......
So, the accepted criteria out there today seems to be not if it is badged as the original but whether you tell people it is an original.
Having a clone or replica down to the last factory piece is not frowned upon in the open market so I do not know why it is here.
I personally would not put cobra emblems on my car but that's just me.
If a guy has a GT with a full 4v conversion and all the matching cobra pieces and has the cobra emblems on it well..........I would not frown on it.
If it was a plain stock V6 with cobra emblems then I would because there is a big difference there.
But, when it's your car and you put the gas in it I guess you can do whatever you want...........

who gives a rats ***, this whole "giving them a bad rep"... who cares
Its your car, do what you want... but remember that whatever you do opens yourself up to critisisim.
Personally, I say you can badge whatever you have, so long as the car complies with the standards of that badge, so If you did a cobra body and motor swap - the put a freaking cobra badge on that sucker - there nothing wrong with that, or if you did a roush or a saleen kit, did the bolt ons - then slap a 281 on there or a stage 2 badge. (and dont come on here crying "thats fake" blah blah, that would be no less fake than somebody who swaps a solid rear in a factory cobra, or swaps blowers on a roush etc, etc) Some people have this conception that the different trim levels are different cars... they are not, well all drive mustangs - some just have better parts then others
