I'm an idiot. Need some help...
 

I recently got my car dyno tuned. I just went to get gas tonight and I automatically went for the 87 octane. Now I'm wondering if the last time I got gas I got 87 octane or 93 octane (which isneeded for my PI swap). If I got my car tuned for 93 octane and I was running 87 octane at the time of the dyno tune, how bad is that? Should I get my car re-tuned asap?

Someone on this forum did that before i think and he just put a **** load of octane booster in it. I'd be careful driving it and would just wait to get on it at all until that tank of gas is gone.

I just ran the tank empty and filled it with 93 octane. My question is that when I got my tune, I had 87 octane in the tank and the shop tuned it for 93 octane thinking I had 93 octane in the tank. Is that bad???

Wait so your tuner tuned the car for 93 octane while you had 87 octane in it? The car ran fine? Maybe the tuner never tuned it for 93 because if he did and u had 87 in it it wouldn't have drove right.

octane booster FTW

i think one bottle will take you up to 93ish octane

93 octane and one bottle should take you around 100

If he tuned it for 93 it would have been pinging like mad and he would have heard it right away. For now just dump a couple of bottles of octane boost and next time don't be so cheap, buy the good stuff.

Nope. Though it would be cool, but not likely. From what I've read, it takes about ten bottles of octane boost to get one full point (unless there is a different size of it). It might not be 10 bottles = 1 point, but I highly doubt that one bottle will jump the octane level sevearl points.

Yeah. They love sucking in innocent saps with that bull**** message WILL RAISE TEN POINTS!!!! Guess what? Ten points is equal to one octane point.

If he had 87 in the tank at the time of tuning, I am sure the tuner tuned it for what is int eh tank.


That is to say, you don't tune for "xxx" octane, you tune to get the most power without ping. I am sure if there was detonation the tuner would back off the timing.

In other words, you really have a 87 tune in there, and there is probably a few more horsepower left on the table,you could get it retuned for 93 with 93 in the tank and make a few more horsepower, but were talking probably 5 horsepower here.. not really that much.
