Rear ID tag
I need information on how to decipher the rear ID tag on a 1997 Ford Mustang GT. Help would be greatly appreciated.

the Id tag reads S 2230 R 2L 73 886K17 , Thanks

you have 2.73's in there granted no one has changed them out

The S2230 is an axle code that the dealer uses for finding parts. 2L 73 is 2.73:1 Gear Ratio with the L standing for Limited Slip. The 88 in the 886K17 is for the 8.8 rear end. the 6K17 I believe is the serial number of the axle.

Thanks for the info, kinda thought they were pretty high because my girlfriend and I were doing about 80 mph in 2nd gear up against the rev limiter
