Default Problem with tach.

I got a 5" tach in my car,the problem i have is,it will not rev past 5k,what is the deal?
if i flip the switch on the back of the tach it will rev 7k-10k but it is off from what it is on
the dash tach.What could this be?? bad tach maybe??

Where and how are you getting you TACH signal ..?
Do you have a tach adaptor?
Also what Brand of tach?

i tap in to a wire on the passenger side kick panel,think it is a orange/white wire,it is what they told me to do on the forums sometime back when i got it.a friend got it for me,not sure where he got it or of the brand,it says type-r on the box.
