if i had the money i would go for the viper spec t56. i dont see the tko being any stronger than that trans and it would be nice to have a wild set of rear gears and still get decent mileage with the double overdrive.
But you are talking AT LEAST another 500 bucks for the TKO, and it's much heavier then the T-56. It does not have double overdrive, 6th gear in the T-56 is .62 and TKO is 5th is.64!
The "viper spec" which is somewhere around 2600 dollars new has a double, its a .50 final drive wtih a .74 5th gear. All of them have a "double" overdrive though, an overdrive is anything over a 1:1 ratio. The non viper spec just adds a gear (basically) between a 5 speeds 4th and 5th, giving you a better top end above about 115-120 MPH (depending on gearing).

TKO/T56 sticky:

The TKO is stronger, but the 56 does have that nice .50. One thing to note, I would NOT plan on running a stock gear ratio with a .50 overdrive 56. With a 3.27 rear gear thats going to make for some low RPM on the highway, maybe too low, I would definatly recommend something like a 4.10.

pretty much everything i said above, and with the viper specs 2.66 first gear 4.56s would be comparable to people putting 4.10s on a car with a t45.

i was saying he pretty much repeated me, and with the vipers 1st gear being a 2.66, 4.56 rear gears would be comparable to the performance/output of 4.10 gears on a car with a t45.

My T45 crapped out so I decided to put the T56 in, I LOVE it! T56 w/ 4.10's FTW!

If you get the T56, you need a new clutch, flywheel, shorter driveshaft, different yoke, shifter, and a brace.

Gotcha!
I know they call it double overdrive, but really it's like a .80 ratio in 5th, bottom line is the T-56 is more expensive then the TKO

Kinda. The 2nd/3rd/4th gears of the viper 56 are comparable to a 45/56/3650's so you would have a much more agressive and shorter 2/3/4 with the 56. I would have to get the calculator page out to see the numbers, but even a 4.30 will probably tach lower in a 56 with .50 than say a T45 with a .62

i was basically just sayin if he stuck with the stock 3.27s with the t56 first gear would be a really looong gear.

yea i believe thatsbecause of the instant boost and great torque that the kb developes, with 4.10s traction becomes limited.
