Default need help picking a mustang

Hi all, Im new to mustangs. Im interested in buying an older style mustang, 2000+ years.

My budget is around 10k. I want something with no more then 70-80k. I really like the gt and am wondering what the best years are for that car?

What should I look out for particularly maintanence wise when inspecting the car?

I also wouldn't mind getting a v6, but prefer the v8. Im just looking for a car thats easy to fix and somewhat more reliable than my 325i. Ive wasted so much $ on fixing sensors etc Im ready to sell it.

Thanks

Im assuming your lookingat the 2000-2004 era stang. I usually buy later models due to the fact that the manufactuer has worked out most of the kinks by then. If your buying private check the wheel wells for rubber from burn outs. Try and find one with something left on the warrenty, i doubt you will in the 70-80k range your looking in. Why you looking for such high miles?
Most cars have probably been thru a few owners by then so i def. reccomend a carfax report. Take it to your local Triple A shop or something similar and have them look over the car before you buy it. Also try to get the maintenance book on the car too see if the current and previous owners kept up on any needed work.

I would go with a 96-98 Cobra. Don't let higher milage be an instant turn-off, as long as its been maintained and not abused for should be fine. Just be patient, find what you want, and use your better judgement.

most mustang are abused lol i know mine is....if you get a 99-early 01 GT you can def. fine a nice one in between 8-10 with less than 80K on it, i bought my 99 GT vert 5spd fully-loaded with 61K on it for $8,000 like a 1 1/2 ago

Check the for sale section here. You shouldn't have a problem getting a GT with 50k miles or so for $10k from a private seller.Go with a 2001 or newer GT though. They have the 3650 transmission (way better ratios) and limtied slip differential. Get a carfax, look for rubber in the fender wells, and check for aftermarket mods. Mods are not always a bad sign, but sometimes it points to some time spent at the track.

It maybe 2000 and up...When I had my 2001 gt, I was trying to figure out what trans I had and read somewhere that they started in 2001. They even said that some of the earlier 2001s still had the old trans. They had all of the codes and stuff for the sticker inside the door panel. In fact, I remember now, american muscle's website has or did have this info. I'll see if I can locate it.

There is a guy selling an '01 Bullitt (the only year for them) for around that price. Look in the Bullitt Mustangs section on this site, good luck.
