Dude...we're droppin motors like flies!

Same thing happened to me bro...in the same fix as you...have a non operational car sitting here and a semi-operational motor. I'm still deciding on a motor swapor a rebuild...looking into crate motors right now.

I am going to pull the motor and dissasemble it.. At this point I am probably going to source a used or new drop in...I saw a couple 0 mile engines on ebay for $3000 shipped. Quick question will a DOHC engine out of a 98 cobra work? and if so can I install my manifolds and accesories onto it??

Accesories yes manifolds no. You will need to reflash the computer and get a harness for it.

Weird I went outside just now and the car fired right up.. The oil pressure guage was working...... It sounded a little "dry" but it started and idled ok... I shut it right down but why would it start?

Do our ECM's shut things down if we loose oil pressure?? I am still assuming it is trashed but it started and wasn't smoking or making any "metalic" noises.. It sounded like a "dry start"..... huh.. Any ideas?

So more may be salvageable then i first thought.... perhaps a little honing, new bearings, rings, and having the heads cleaned??

I was told that the ECU will shut the motor down if you loose oil pressure. I lost oil pressure in my motor doing around 80 on the interstate like you and the car just shut off and wouldn't restart. It ended up being seized. A shop took it apart and showed me that nothing was salvagable. The cams ground into the heads, the bearings stuck to the crank, and the rods and pistons are gone. The guy said I put the tentioners on the wrong sides and that caused the oil pressure loss. He said that the tentioners run off of oil pressure, which I knew, and that if the ports don't line up in the block and the tentioner then it will cause failure.
