Default ENGINE IS TOAST... Well a paperweight.. What's salvageable??

Due to circumstances beyond my control the engine in my GT locked up on the interstate at 80mph last night due to lack of lubrication, most likey due to the tons and tons of aluminum shavings in the oil passages. I had done thetiming chaintensioner fix, reset the timing, replaced the oil pump and the oil pickup, (which were all loaded with shavings)....I had the car towed home and hung the keys up..

I guess I need to know what is salvageable from the motor.... I am trying to decide if I should rebuild this one or look for a used motor.. If the used route is the way to go what should i be looking for?

Thanks guys and gals..

well if you end up going the used route, might wanna look for a 5.4L out of a Navigator or something. Sucks to hear about your motor though.

+1. but if you have damage from foreign material, its more than likely you've spun a few bearings, so in my opinion i would be looking for a new longblock or else your looking at alot of machine work.

you can use your stock ecu jus need a reflash as long as you dont plan on using the butterflys on the dual runner intake. there are a few intake options made available by either using the reichard racing adapters or a few aftermarket intakes. you may have to extend a few wires but the factory wiring harness should work as well. the stock manifolds or cobra shorties are kinda your limitations exhaust wise. the x or h pipe will have to be widened. the factory hood will not work with the navigator intake but not to many people use that intake anyways i believe. 1/2 spacers can be used on the k member to lower the motor which some people recommend.

Either look fora used longblock or shortblock. A 96-98 2v shortblock would bump up yourcompression ratio and give you a little more power (you'll need a6 boltflywheel though). If you go with a used shortblock, make sure you get your heads cleaned/inspected before you reuse them. You should be able to part out the block and crank for a little extra cash. The rods and pistons aren't very desireable...

That really sucks man. My advice to you is pull that engine apart and find out what caused the failure before you make any decisions on your next step.
