Default question about gears

ok so this question is half tech half quandry. i have 4.10 gears and the max out 3rd gear at just over 80 mph in my car, about 83 to be more exact.. now i have added mods and i'm running 8.5's in the 8th mile , but my mph isn't going up. i have been running in the 80mph consitantly since i was running 8.9's. my sixty foots are getting better and i know i'm planting more power but i can't figure out why i cant get more mph , cause that would help out to get the low 8's. i was wondering if my gears were the source considering where our powerband is. i'm not sure. if i go to 3.73's what kind of 3rd gear mph would i be looking at? would the 3.73's more than likely increase my mph? any answers , TYIA.

to be more clear , i meant would 3.73's increase my trap speed , i know they would increase the mile per hour that each gear tops at.

since you have 4:10's which are geared lower than 3:73's you are losing some top end speed, if you swapped to 3:73's or 3:55's you would see more mph

Default RE: question about gears

I would speculate that your ET would increase with 3.73s, because of the reduced torque being delivered to the wheels. With the 4.10s your overall ratios in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are: 13.82, 8.16, and 5.45:1; with 3.73s these would be 12.57, 7.42, and 4.96:1 and you'd need 10% or more torque from the engine to maintain the same acceleration rate.
