Default Water pump issue?

Ill make it short and simple, my waterpump is the 7vein(vane?) one that has the plastic cap on the snout. Well, a little piece of plastic on the snout chipped off, leaving a small hole the diameter of an eraser on a pencil. For those not familiar, the water pump pulley sits on the plastic cap, and the 4 bolts go around it. We put the pulley back on, still fits fine like it did before, no wiggling, nothing.

It should be fine, right? They had pumps at autozone that looked exactly like mine, just without the plastic cap, so im assuming the cap really isnt a big deal.
