where to find strut nut
can anyone tell me if they know a place to find a nut that will fit an 01 strut? I went to ford but they wanted me to buy the whole strut mount in order to get the nut, and that was $100. Not paying $100 for a freakin nut. and help would be most appreciated.

You will have to find a nut and bolt company. the ones we use in michigan are Fastenal and Mid-State Nut and Bolt. Once you find a place like that then you can take the other nut in and they will be able to get you one that fits. Home Depot and those kinds of stores wont have S***.

buy the strut and return it the next day... say you decided to go with cheaper struts or whatever[8D]
Does that bolt have to be of any particular hardness too? You should also check with a suspension shop... in all their business transaction they are bound to loose a nut here and there, ask them where they get theirs from.

It's an M16x2 self-locker, grade 8.8--try Ace Hardware, although they may not have something that big in stock. A junkyard would be a good place to look too...The OEM nuts are dimpled on two flats at the top and designed for single use, however you could reuse it with a dab of locktite. I have one, pay the postage and it's yours--PM me...

When you get it off clamp it in a vise andwhack the dimples at the top with a 16 oz hammer and a3/32" drift pin--don't bang on them, but give 'em one or two smart whacks. That will "reset" the self-lockingnature of the nut, it should go on 4 or 5 turns by hand and then need a wrench from there on...
