Default Quick question guys..

I have a 04 mustang gt and it came stock with a hood scoop, the hood scoop is not functional though its for show, but if i cut the material underneath the hood and take out the plastic thats inside the hood scope, will it make my car run any better, or is it basically pointless, ive heard people do it, but im not sure if its worth it. Thanks

I believe it's pointless unless you're doing ram air. Even that would probably be pointless. I believe most do it as a boost to their ego and to escape the ridicule that we stangers face each day for having a non functional hoodscoop. Although it may allow a tiny bit of heat to escape the engine bay, it would let water into the engine bay wreaking havoc on the coil on plugs whichdon't like water.

pointless... even if you look at the Camaros and Firebirds and their difference between their non hood scopes and the ones that do have them its 15hp to the crank. so minus that to the wheels plus adding water to your engine like above... water gets in your engine doesn't matter how fast it its cuz it ain't gonna run haha

Well I have done it. Unlike any of the guys that posted above. It gives no real performance boost but gas mileage on the highway is increased alot. It keeps the intake and plenum cold. I can get out after a long drive and place my hand on the plenum and its cold. I get the same gas mileage on a 50 mile trip to nashville as my wife does in her basicly stock 01 gt with stock gears. I have a built engine, full bolt ons, and 4.10 gears. Before I cut the hood open I would burn 1/8 tank more then her. Now remember this is only on the highway.

Oh I don't get a drop of water on my engine and have driven thru some good rain storms.
