I was wondering if anyone could tell me what may cause this sound. I can heara pinging sound coming from the exhaust even when the car is parked and off. Sometimes it is really loud. It only does it when the car is hot or has been driven for a while. I was wondering if the cats are getting plugged.

you have some exhaust work done recently? It is just the new metal going through heating and cooling cycles it will go away with time i had the exact same thing.

no exhaust work but i did have the engine replaced. the old engine was putting oil in the exhaust. I can hear it even when the engine is idling.

well since you know its definately your exhaust since it happens when the car is off, I would just wait it outbecause it will eventually set itself and the ping will stop like mine did.
