I've been running 500 rwhp with it for about 4 months now with no problems. Nanaki run 550 rwhp for a long time through his no problem. He bumped his up to 575 rwhp for a little while with no problems. Once he hit the 630 rwhp mark it finally went. The 3650 will handle a lot if it's treated right. No speed shifting.

I know of two that are well over 600 to wheels and still going, the biggest thing is tires, if you start making big power like that you cant run dr's anymore, you have to run street tires to make it last... kinda counter productive, but ohh well it buys a little time to save up for a new tranny... mid 500s to wheels is the highest ive seen it hold with dr's or better

does it make a lot of difference power shifting it without letting off the gas? ive never done it because im too scared of breaking something. it seems like it would be really hard on the tranny.

It is harder on the transmission, and every other driveline component as well, it's called "beating on it" and things will break sooner if you do it a lot...As for the 3650's capacity, it is rated for 360 ft.lbs. (that's the "36" part)--which is 360 HP at 5252 rpm. At 6500 it would be 445 HP. That's Tremec's recommendation forwhatever normal service life they decided was appropriate--beyond that is up to you...
