Default Best deal on a Mustang

Okay, post your best deal on a Mustang. Here's mine.

Picture this. You just get back from Iraq and it seems everyone in your Battalion (700 Plus people) gets a new car. You drive to work in your beat-up pick-up and there are no empty parking spots. There are so many new cars people are parking up on the grass. It looks like a car dealership without the price tags in the windows. So I start looking for a new car. Its Jan of 05. I look around and find what I want, a 2004 SVT Cobra Mustang. What do I pay - 28,400 plus tax and all the other crap they tack on. I get 6500 for my truck, Kelly Blue Book est. its value at 6800. My car is sweet. I have since put on a K&N air intake and SLP exhaust.

So what is your story?

I don't get why people trade their cars in. I wanted to just to get a "new" car...but i ended up selling my car for 3300 instead of taking the 2300 the dealer was going to give me. They WILL make their money one way or another. If it's not raping you on your trade in, they'll make it on your intrest/faulty engine/what ever they can think of. Think outside of the box. Patience is a virtue. Thanks for your help in Iraq. =]

Most dealers here take GST off of the new car if you do a trade in, because they cannot charge you GST because it's a TRADE rather than purchase

I was told I could get $13,500 on my truck for a tradein (I could sell it for maybe $16000 if I was lucky)... That's as a trade in on a $60,000 new truck. GST would be $4200 on the new truck, but if I traded my truck in, I'd not be paying GST.

So in theory, they're giving me $2700 more for my truck than if I were to sell. Plus selling takes time, so does advertising, and that costs money, etc etc etc.

To respond to the original thread:

I sold my 1997 Volkswagen Cabrio Convertible for 5000 dollars to a rich dude who wanted it for his daughters first car. (hehe, the guy wanted to test drive it, and I let him, trusting that he'd come back for his 2004 Honda S2000) Then I purchased my 2002 Gt Vert, which at the time was 2 years old and had 15000 miles on it from a guy who works at the Ford plant here in VA for 19,000. The car was pristine when I got it cause he had Ford repair all the dings and road scratches on it. Be assured, it is much less pristine now, 1 year later.

Here is my deal on a mustang, its not new though. Come to find out that after my friend from highschool got married and had a kid he has no time or money for his car. Its a 90 LX hatchback 5.0. The engine has been rebuilt, bored .030 over, probe forged pistons, a lunati cam. All the engine needs is a new set of heads. It already has a UPR short throw shifter, a 5-lug conversion with 2001 GT rims and tires. The windows are tinted. He turned the interior from the 2-tone grey to black and hes throwing his system in with it all for $2000. I think Im getting a good deal. I cant wait. HEHE.

I got my '88 GT hatch back in '87 and it cost me around $14,000 after trading in my old '81 Ford Fairmont Futura which had an anemic straight 6 cylinder engine in it. Suffice it to say, I'm never going to by anything with less that 8 cylinders ever again.
Thank you for the job you and your friends did over in Iraq. I'm very glad you made it home OK. Enjoy your Stang!
