4.6 2v ticking
I just got my forged stroker motor in and i was on the virgin voyage (I got on it a little bit not in boost though)when I heard a ticking noise . It sounded like when I blew the bottom end last time . My Dad who was a mechanic up until the late 80's early 90's said " It sounds like a collapsed or stuck lifter ". He's an old school chevy guy . I take it he meant the lash adjusters . So he told me to drive it to the end of the block and see if it went away . It did . I did not replace them when the motor was built but they only have about 4,000 miles on them . I took the car out again and under medium acceleration about 3000 rpm's it got stuck again . So I took it easy again and it went away .My question is has anyone here ever had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it ? I'm scared if I go out again and get it stuck that it will stay stuck . i know there is a special tool to collapse the springs then you can pull out the lash adjusters but I want some one here who has done this to tell me what they did .Do you think they need to be adjusted ? HELP ! i'm tired of working on this car I want to drive it hard .any info will be greatly appreciated .

RE: 4.6 2v ticking
I just started my new forged motor today and had a loud ticking from the lash adjuster. I just brought it up to 2000 rpms during the start up prcedures and it filled the and the ticking is gone. If you dont start up a new motor right you will destroy it.

I cranked over the motor a few times with no fuel or spark to prime the oil pump . then I ran it at 2000 rpm's for ten minutes or so then I let it sit overnight . the next day I started it and ran it at 2000 rpm's again for twenty minutes . Checked all the fluids . and went on a drive . It only gets stuck in mid rpm's 3500 or so and runs rough . Probably a valve not opening or closing . the heads were ported and a valve job was done . This is my third motor (the first forged stroker). I have high lift cams but I don't think that is the problem .Thanks for the reply .

From my personal experience I have heard ticking from engines with spun rod bearings and from valve/lifter issues. Not sure what it is in your case. It will not go away by itself, take care of it soon so you don't destroy your new investment. Good luck. Post an update

It doesn't do it when I start it up it does it when I am driving and I give it a little gas . maybe to where the boost reads zero instead of vaccum . Then it ticks . i get it home and either drive it or snap the throttle to 3500 or so a few times to get it unstuck .
