Raising the Accelerator pedal

I tried to search for this but didn't come up with anything.

I want to raise the accelerator pedal on my '03 GT. Does anyone have any ideas or has done this before? Since I road race the car I want to be able to heel/toe the brake/accelerator but the accelerator is too low in comparison to the brake pedal height.

I also noticed that theaccelerator pivots on an axlethat is welded to the firewall. Is there some way of relocating this so that I can move the pedal up a couple inches?Maybe pull the pin out of the arm and put some sort of extension from the original spot? There's about an inch of cable play but if I go any more than that the pedal will angle up too much so I also need to lenghten the cable an inch.

you can use a piece of tubing and a hose clamp or something to take up some of the slack on the end of the cable

I read that but what it won't raise the pedal enough for me to heel/toe. I need to have it even or as close to even with the brake pedal height.

After I re-read the link you posted and crawled into the footwell again I realized that you are right. Thanks!

John,

Shouldn't you be more worried about getting your hood and windshield fixed first? [8D]

LOL!! Windshield is already fixed and the hood has a restraint strap that i made for it so that if it happens again it will only go around 12" up. It's just a temporary fix until I can find a cheap but good replacement.

I did the plastic tube on the cable mod and it worked great! It sure is hard to squeeze into that little area to tighten the hose clamps though!

WOW that guy got a contributer tag for that how to. I did one on how to build an engine and got nothing. Now I'm hurt.

This is a good cheap mod I did it years ago.

Its not a good idea mod, i did it also but after a week when i thought my car was 'faster' i looked at it from a more mechanical point of view and all its doing is giving more gas with less foot pressure, not making anything faster. it also stretches the cable and could possiblely rip it from the TB linkage if stretched to far (IE FLOORING IT REPEATEDLY...)

just thought id add my experience to the post, whether people listen or not.
