Default Recommend a Filler?

The side scoops on my 2000 convertible are not attached very tightly to the body and in heavy rain water is getting into the side panels of the car. I was planning on using silicone sealant to fill in the crack between the scoops and the car and also to attach the side scoops a little better > Is this the best material to use? Will it damage the paint? Is there a better material?
Thanks
C

Are you talking about the side panels on the doors? The non-functional side scoops?

Yep, the non-functional side scoops. If you pull them back there is a hole into the body of the car behind them. On my 2003 GT there looks like there is a gasket material sealing the scoop to the car but on the wifes 2000 Convertible they are just tacked on. Behind them is a plastic sheet that I guess is supposed to seal the hole but it is not attached correctly. Not a fantastic design really.

It won't damage the paint, but if for any reason you need to take them off, it's going to be a PITA and it'll likely take the paint around it. I would see what you can find for small seals/gaskets before you think about using silicone....

I will get some pictures up of what I am talking about over the weekend

Ya, thats a good point, actually not that you mention it I should be able to fab up a gasket of sorts I suppose. On the on the other hand I can't image a situation where I would need to take them off...
