Default How much horsepower can I expect from a tune?

After reading a few posts it seems like you don't really get all that much of an HP boost from a tune. How much should I expect from a tune and if it really is worth it which one works the best?

I'm thinking the next mod will be UDP's and TB/Plenum. Would it be best to tune after these if a tune will wbe worth it?

I think you should save your money for a tune until you do something like cams, supercharger or nitrous that a tune is required in order for safe/smooth running.

a good tune wont add all sorts of power, but it will really improve the feel of your car and smooth out the powerband. I have an auto, so part of the tune helped make the shifts alot more firm and quicker.

now i think a tune would do you very well because almost everyone i've talked to that has longtubes noticed little to no gain until getting a good solid tune. I mean on an otherwise bolt-on only car, its not going to be a huge increase, but smoothes out the powerband better....and can also make your car run more effeciently in terms of fuel consumption....

just like UDPs and a TB/Plenum wont add tons of power, but it will help your engine rev quicker/get better throttle response.

if you're definetly getting the above said mods, i'd wait on the tune until after...

A premium fuel tune can add quite a bit of grunt in the most usedrpm ranges(2500 to 4500 rpm), ranges largely ignored by those focused on peak HP. Increases in this range can make street driving a much more enjoyable activity.

If you look at my composite dyno chart here, you can see that my latest tune added only 6HP peak, however it added 5 to almost 20 HP between 3500 and 4800 rpm--that's a lot of go-power down where you can use it.

Should you be married to 87 octane fuel there will be some gain, but nothing to write home about...

Thanks Everyone for your input! I'm leaning towards Bamachips right now since they seen to have a pretty good rep as far as tuning our cars. I can also get them to do an 87, 91/93 Performance and 91/93 Torque tune on an XCAL2 which sounds like it would work for the environments that I'll be driving the car in mostly.

87 for normally running around the streets and maybe once in a while drop the 91/93 Torquewhen I want to have somefun around the streets. 91/93 Performance when I go Road Racing!

The best thing about a tune is the seat of the pants feeling a constant pulling harder due to a better air/fuel ratio and the ability to change the air/fuel ratio through all rpm ranges so that it doesn't lean out in the mid range to top end rpms. A smoother accleration and it got me a better MPG. As far as HP goes, wasn't much at all.

As long as the difference between 87 and 93 continues to be a lousy 20ยข a gallon I'll gladly fork over another $5 a week (20 mpg and 500 milesper week) for the added kick in the pants.

how about the gain from LT's and a TB/Plenum with a tune. that should be like a 25-30hp increase correct?

EDIT: thats completing a full bolt-on car.

Custom tuning a lightly modified NA mustang like yours would be a waste of money. I would just order a handheld with a canned tune.
