Default coolant overflow tank

So I was taking apart my cooling system to replace the hoses and replace the coolant and I broke off the little overflow nipple on the top of the tank. It's the hose that is right in the middle on top when you open up the hood. Apparently the nipple is like an inch and a half long and pretty flimsy - just snapped right off when I tried to remove the hose. I had no idea it was that long and so I wasnt being very careful. I ordered a new tank from ford for an ungodly 100 dollars but I figured they would kill me on the price.

My question is, is it safe to drive for now? I didn't leave it unhooked. I glued it back on the tank with plastic cement and then put silicon all around it. I've since refilled the cooling system and started her up - it definitely leaks but from what I understand, coolant doesn't flow through this hose constantly so I'd only lose a little coolant at a slow rate.

Obviously the pressure will have a way out though so is this going to be bad for the cooling system? Would it be better just to plug the hole until I get the replacement?

I'm not going on any road trips but I'd like to be able to drive around and do the things I need to do. Thanks for any advice.

I would say that youre gonna be ok. Just watch your temp. My radiator has a crack in it somewhere and it looks pretty good. I drive it everyday. When my coolant light comes on I just pull over and fill it up again. Trying to recover some money for christmas.

yes, it's ok to drive it like that but monitor your coolant levels every now and then
