JLT RAI MAF Screen

JLT RAI MAF Screen
I have an 03 GT and I just ordered the Jlt short ram air intake, should be coming in a few days but i wanted to clear something up before i get it. I was reading that the instructions say to remove the maf screen. Whats the reason for this? Is it necessary? Unless the screen gets in the way of something can i just leave it on?

RE: JLT RAI MAF Screen
The screen is actually two things in one. It seals up the maf sensor to the stock plastic filter housing, and it also allows the MAF to read the air speed more accurately. The screen creates minor turbulence that helps the MAF out. They may have a proper seal for their application and they probably don't want any restrictions as far as screens and turbulence??? That's the only thing I can think of? Good luck

RE: JLT RAI MAF Screen
I have the cai, I'll be converting to the rai soon due to maintenance reasons (I'm just too lazy to get back under there and install the filter after I clean it). I have had no problems after a year of driving with it off. I would recommend buying maf cleaner and cleaning the maf every 6months or so, the main reson is the filter your installing, like k&n's use oil and it may or may not gum up your maf sensor.
