ticking in my motor

Default ticking in my motor

i just bought a 99 mustang gt....when i bought it i didnt hear the tick but when i got home i heard it and it isnt all the time just when im going a constant speed in any gear....if i accel it goes away and when it idles it goes away dunno what it is...any ideas?

Cam timing chain, timing chain tensioner, or tensioner arm. It may be that accellerating temporarily pulls the slack out of it and that at idle it settles down, etc. 4.6's are notorious for cam chain/hardware "ticking" noises. Then again, I might be wrong.
OK, after I posted this I saw that there is a post in this section above the line which addresses fixing the ticking noise in a 4.6. He describes what I was talking about here.

just got back from the shop today and they said it sounds like timing chain slaping against the cover....the lot i bought it from is gonna pay to have it fixed....900$ thank god cause i wouldnt wanna have to spend that my self LOL
