Default What kind of octane rating should I use?

I just got my 2000 Mustang GT (37k miles at $10k, black on black, auto). This car is a huge gas hog compared to my old car. Since I went from a 2.7l i6 to a 4.6l v8, I figured I should run premium. However, each time I fill up I dump $30 down the drain. I was wondering if I should be putting in permium (93oct) each time I fill up, or is 87 okay. I don't want to risk damaging my motor, I love this car.

87 is fine for your car, you can double check in your owner's manual, it will have the recommended octane in there. You would only need higher octane such as 91 or 93 if you get a timing adjuster and advance the timing. Until you do that stick with the 87.

not true. check your GT manual, it has the gas recommendation for a mach1 in there too. it says to put at least 89 in the mach1 and that's a 4v.

Or if your ignition timing is advanced past 10 degrees or if you're running a higher compression engine.

Yeah go with what the manufacturer suggests and you will be fine. You will only have to use a higher octane when you up your timeing or if you buy a tuner and install the tune.

P.S. I would suggest getting the Predator tuner and modifing your shift points and pressure in your auto, I did in mine and love it, It grabs 2nd gear really good and chirps the tires at mid-throtle, and will smoke them if i turn off the trac-control and have it on the floor!!!!!!!

The only thing is that I bought it used from a dealer without a manual (and without a spare [:@]) Anyone know where I can pick up both of these?

Go to the parts department and they will give you a 800 number to get a new manual. Im not sure about the spare. Im sure they can help you there also.
