Default question about engine swap

ok guys i am wanting to do a engine swap soon but not sure which one to get..i know i can get a 4v cobra engine but cost alot which not looking to pay that much but i was also wondering if i could get a 5.0 and still get up there in hp and torque..i just want to know if neones done a 5.0 swap into a 96 gt before and wondering what things i need to change for it to work..like wire harness, ecu, etc...thanks..right now i have the stock 4.6 2v..i hear that u can get some power out of the 5.0 without changing internals...just want to know if thats true or not..thanks

Honestly, if you're looking for cost effective, you could go with the 99-04 PI 2v engine. They don't cost hardly anything and I think the stock wiring harness will work (don't quote me on that). They will only handle 450 hp, but it breaths a lot better than the one that you have now. That, and you can probably find one with a lot less miles than you could with the 5.0's.

Swapping a 5.0 in a 96 is no easy task. Been there, done that, drove the car 100 miles, parted it out. The wiring alone took hours to figure out, and complete.

Not saying it is impossible, but not worth it. It will pretty much make your car worthless if you ever try to sell it as well.

Other than the wiring, K member, exhaust system, T5 swap, and the rest of the odd and ends, its easy .

I am looking to now buy a 96-98 stang, and to a PI motor swap. Screw the 5.0 swapping. If you really want a 5.0, sell your car, and buy a 94-95.

I to have thought about it, but the blocks themselves suck... so they are not as cheap as many think if you want to hit big numbers, just use a PI 2v or a 4v mod motor and get FI

Yep agreed with the $$$ of a 5.0. I dropped $3600.00 building a 306 with the TFS H/C/I that may have made close to 370hp at the crank. It adds up quick.
