Hey hey welcome to the 4.6 world! Good question you got there, the heads on the 2v's ar the weak points due to pretty low air flow. You can purchase a set of heads that are already done up for you or you can get yours ported out at a machine shop *would do some shoppin around and look for a good place* and would probably be the best bang for your buck. Got mine done for about 650 and he said he could have gone a little deeper on the port job but i said that was good *doh!* Theres quite a few cam choices you can make from differnet companys. I know comp cams can custom grind you a set to tailor to your own preference of power band depending how you like to drive. Don't know if you plan on running nitrous or getting a blower/turbo setup in the future. If you do you may want to keep that in mind when selecting a cam as well. Go to compcams.com and call thier help line and get a cam tech on the horn, i found thier advice VERY helpful. Also if you decide to go too big of a cam you will run into PTV issues.. also somthin else to think about if you want a big cam. Hope that helps and sorry if it's somthin you already heard before[8D] Just sharing some info i had to go through with my build. Good luck!

Default RE: head and cam choice?

There are lots of cam companys out there that make excellent cams. Its usually a person preferance choice for most. Comp, Crower, Crane, VT, Patriot Performance to name a few. Some cams require new springs and some need to be tuned after install for maximum gains. If your just wanting a cam and dont really want to get new springs than a stage 1 is great and will add some decent power 25-35hp. I had my heads ported and polished from a machine shop (family, didnt cost me a dime). I noticed a nice power increase with these heads being massaged. But Patriot Performance has some nice heads that are assembled with new valve train that can take almost any cam out there and they run about $1200. Most cams run about $550 (set of 2)..A few 4.6 sites to help you with parts would be:

rpmoutlet
americanmuscle
summitracing
lethalperformance
mustangsunlimited
steeda
latemodelrestoration
vtengines
