Hey guys,

Need some help. I am looking for a 96-98 GT, and found one that I think I may look into. I was really looking for a 5 speed, but I am having a heck of a time finding one around here, so I may just settle with an auto, and swap it later. Here are the details:

96 Mustang GT Auto black cloth interior, Laser Red exterior 120k+ miles, pioneer CD player, stock 16 inch wheels + 17x8 Cobra five spoke wheels with 245 50 17 Bluestreak tires. The wheels are genuine Ford not replicas, and they and the tires were purchased and put on in summer of '07. The car is a daily driver, the interior is in good shape the exterior has a few scratches but is rust free and straight.

I emailed the guy about it, and this is what he stated:

"there are some scratches on the passenger side of the front bumpercover and the mileage is not exact the odometer works intermittently. It works more often than not. I would guess the actual mileage to be just a few higher than actual. I would not have even noticed it if my friend would not have told me before he sold it to me. I have read on forums that this is fairly common on these cars."

I will attach some pics below. I offerened him $3700.00 without the cobra rims. Do you think that is a good deal? Thanks for the help.

ive never ehard of the odometer not working. i have a 98gt. if u want a stick, just wait for it. ur gonna spend a bit of money and time swapping out for a stick. i dont know where u live, but around me theres always a bunch... the majority have sticks. ummm to me 3700 sounds like a good price... ive seen 97-98 online for 7 or 8000 even. i bought mine 4 years ago for just under 8000, so the prices still seem to be up there... the odometer thing sounds a little sketchy though... the interior looks real clean... seats look great like they are new. exterior is eh... if u have the money to do a auto to manual swap, then id say save it and wait till u find exactly what u want... theres a bunch of cars out there... id wait but thats just me, im sure other people will have different opinions.

Just wait for what you want. This sounds a bit sketchy at best. Intermittent odometer function means intermittent mileage tracking. The car could be 10 miles more than the odometer states or 50,000 more. Who knows?

Ahh, that may be true I never thought of that. I was going to say cause if I remember right, the speedo and the odometer work off the same wires as far as recording data. I know they use the same ground for sure. I am about 99% sure they use the same feed from the speedo sensor off the tranny.

No they don't. My last '96 GT I had, the speedo wasn't working but I was still collecting mileage.

*Edit - $3,700 seems ok. I paid $2,400 for mine 3 years ago with 7x,000 on it. If you wait and are patient you'll find the right car.

Thanks for all the help guys. I am going to talk to him a little more about the odometer. I like the color of it, but the odometer thing scares me to a point. Thanks again for all the help.
