I just purchased a 1996 Mustang GT. When i started looking it over and thinking about everything, I thought it was weird that the car did not have anything power on the inside besides power mirrors, it does not have fog lights, and came with 16" rims.

It does have a wing and cruise control, and was wondering if I in fact had a GTS/248a.

Is there anything I can check to verify if I do have one or not?

Sounds like my 97. I don't know if mine actually is a 248a, but it sure sounds like it.

What color? I have a black 96 248a option. You will also have a manual sliding drivers seat, no mach stereo system, and 2.25" exhaust-- crappy idea for weight saving. And you will have to contact ford if you want papers saying you have a 248 option.

Mine is Laser Red. Manual everything besides mirrors. Do you know the number to call to get the papers, and is it even worth calling to have it?

The other thing I have been seeing is that the 8th digit in my VIN is X, which from what I have been reading, is a 225hp version of the car. Not sure if that means anythign either. I just don't want to mod out a car that may be worth something someday if it is "rare".

My 8th digit is an X, too. That doesn't mean you have a 225 hp engine. Only '98 GT's came with 225. And if your car turns out to be a 248a, it won't make it rare, or worth any more. It may be worth less due to the lack of options ... Start modding! Save up for the PI swap. Imade 72 rwhp with a PI swap and tune.

Cool, I didnt think it really would make it worth anything. Good thing to, UPS just dropped off my springs, shocks and struts, and my 3.73 gears. PI head swap is coming this spring .

Are you kidding!!!! They are already being auctioned on Barrett-Jackson! Just kidding of course. It is kinda cool to have a 97 Mustang with manual windows and other bare necessities. That is until you have to roll up the windows. I'm so spoiled.
