I think somethings wrong?
today I took out my air silencer in my 03 GT I used this link that someone gave me for help http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/intke.htm

and I was very carefull in taking it out and puttin everything back in place after I had it out I fired up the engine and my dad was outside and we kept on hearin a poppin noise around 4000 rpmit sounded like it was coming from the exhaust...my question is by takin out the air silencer is that the reason for the poppin sound??...and btw my check engine light has been up a week prior to removing the air silencer we took it to the dealership and they turned it off but it came back on a few days ago.

removing the silencershould not cause what you are hearing. I'd take it back to the dealership and have them look at it again. you could be hearing early detonation which can occur for a whole bunch of reasons. I'm just spectulating here, have someone look at it.

Looks like the dealer made a boo boo in just simply turning the check engine light off. All they did was simply reset your computer. Now you're back to square one with the check engine light coming on. There's definitely a problem and the Ford dealer needs to address it FREE OF CHARGE might I add. Unless, of course, you've driven that '01 over 36,000 miles. Im willing to bet my own car that the intake silencer has absolutely nothing to do with your problem.

No removing your air silencer didn't void anything.

The only way you can void your engines warranty is by going to the drag strip & they find out, or you do INTERNAL MODIFICATIONS. Bolt-on part's, headers, intake, cai..etc are fine.

I will bet my left nad your air silencer removal didn't harm a thing. Take your car back to your dealership, this time tell them to DIAGNOSE what's wrong, not reset your computer. Otherwise, get the mud-hole boots out and start stomping one.

Exhaust popping is caused (usually) by fresh air meeting hot, unburnt gas in your exhaust system. Things like no cats or an exhaust leak causes that. Often times running very rich and that gas hitting cats can cause popping too. It could be alot of things, run the codes and see what comes up. Reguardless of your problem, like everyone else says your air silencer has nothing to do with it.
