Default wheels and tires

i have a 2001 mustang gt 5 speed im looking for the largest tire that will fit in my wheel well its stock suspension and height also i wanted to know if getting a smaller rim would help me on the drag strip so i would have more rubber to flex and catch and how wide should the rim be and tire size

thanks snakexxx

I've heard 275s is as wide as you can safely go on the stock wheels. I have 265s in back and it looks great. They wear fine and I've never had any problems.

A smaller wheel will help you from a dig, but it's not going to make a whole lot of difference.

i've got 17x9 wheels all the way around with 275/40 rubber front and back, my car is lowered 2" and i've had no problems with anything rubbing. i've even heard of guys with 10 in wheels out back with 315 rubber, but i'm not sure you could go much wider than 275 on the front.
