1996 Mustang 3.8 to 4.6
Has anyone here ever converted an SN95 Mustang (1996) from a 3.8 and AT to a 4.6and AT or know what's involved? I thought I had all the parts, but posted this question on a local forum and received a ton of conflicting answers. Some even suggested it would be easier to convert to a 5.0 as it would bolt right up to the 3.8 automatic. Anyone ever done it or have any words of wisdom? you going to need a lot of stuff.
short list:
motor/tranny(if needed)
harness
8.8 rear end
exhaust system
n thats just getting started, there are tons of things that are gonna nickel n dime your *** to death. just sell the 6er n get a ready made gt

Thanks for the good advice so far and starting fresh would be the intelligent way to go, however.... I probably should have elaborated to begin with. I justdidn't want to get too wordy. This car has some sentimental value as it was my daughter's graduation present several years ago. It's a relatively low mile convertible that has been stored winters, so we'd kind of like to hang on to it. I already have a 1996 Mustang4.6 motor with all accessories, motor mounts, 6-cat H-pipe, wiring harness, EEC, automatic tranny, double hump crossmember and driveshaft. As I said, it's my daughter's car and the motor will remain stock, so the 7.5 rearend will be just fine.Anyone else have anything to add?Keep in mind it doesn't have to be intelligent advice. LOL.

not really worth it, motor, tranny, motor mounts, radiator, powersteering pump, AC compressor, alternator, suspention rear end, tranny, shifter, driveshaft, PATs will have to be reprogramed, guage cluster, and a probably a few other small things
you will get more power out of finding a used supercoupe motor then anything

Just out of curisity why didn't you slap a S/C or turbo on that thing and call it a day. You would have had more HP and TQ than the NPI your putting in there now and it would have been easier. and Cooler

your at a minumum going to need a detroit true trac for the rear end, the stock open diff or FFRP tlock will not handel it, i blew the spider gears out of my stock open diff with a stock split port auto[8D]
