Default Need help from the tech guys....

My 96GT still sports the non-PI powerplant with roughly 200k miles. My buddy in all his brilliance just rolled and totaled his '00 F-150 with the Triton 4.6.If I can get it cheap(I think I can get the whole truck for 1K) should I go after the motor? Are the motors even close to the same as the '99+ stangs?. I had been planning on a crate motor sometime next year. But if his motor is the same as the '99+ stangs, I'd like to just rebuild his on steriods. Thoughts??

triton can be a 4.6 or 5.4 if im not mistaken, im not 100% sure since i dont mess with trucks. it should be about the same except maybe the heads. not sure though.

I believe the truck 4.6's have different heads. You can definitely use his block, but I don't see why you'd use his block over yours?

The only reason for using his block would be that mine is a daily driver. Using his block would give me the luxury of not needing to hurry the process. Build his while driving mine.

my friend had a 99 gt with a 98 non-pi block with his heads, k&n filter, plenum & 75mm tb, with nittos & 3.73s, stock manifolds, bassani o/r x & 2 chamber flows and he was running 12.90's. cuz with the non-pi block & pi heads you run a tad higher compression then with a full pi setup.

Costs are gonna be another big factor in the decision. After all, D.S.S. racing longblocks start at $4300. A good rotating assembly alone is gonna run me in the $2K range.

You'd be ripping yourself off to buy his truck for 1K if all you really wanted was his block.

You're not in a hurry right now, so just save your money until you can afford to order a short block.
