BMX,
Contact Prestige Mustang at (404) 294-4869 and ask them what you will need. (www.prestigemustang.com) I will be doing a Auto to T-56 6speed conversion in a month or two and I contacted Prestige and they really helped me out a lot. They told me everything that I needed to Know and what to buy. A (working) T-56 6speed used with about 40K miles on it and everything needed to do the complete install was $2,500. I think they priced me a t-45 with everything needed to install, around $1,200. However, these are with used clutches.

IMO tips:
1. A T-45 for $400 most likely has something wrong with it or has high mileage (100k miles +). You might want to get it rebuilt so everything is fresh and ready to go. This would probably cost around $300 - $400 and should come with a warranty of some type.

2. Do your research. Don’t waste your money on crap! You pay for what you get.

3. Anything is easy to install your self if you have the proper tools, done the research, and you take your time with the installment. If you don’t have the tools and don’t have the time to do it your self, expect to pay a mechanic $1,500 to $2,000 to install the trans.

4. Do it correct the first time.

I am so surprised by the helpful info. on this. When I did a search on this a week ago I couldnt find a single helpful post.

to wolverine: I believe you will need a driveshaft actually. pretty sure the 2 transmissions are slightly different in length.

^ you will need to get a shorter driveshaft. The autos are a shorter trans then the manuals.

You should be able to get a steeda driveshaft spacer if you want to go the cheaper route. Unless you find a driveshaft at the j/y cheaper.

You could do that too, but I think that you could save a lot just to take your time, and piece it together piece by piece. If your tranny was shot that is one thing, but if you just want to do it to do it, I would say save the cash, piece it together, and use the left over to buy something else.

But I am kind of a cheap @ss
