if i were you, i'd try to restrict the search to '99 and newer cars, because Ford changed the cylinder heads, cams, and intake in '99 to the PI design. you can do a PI swap onto a non-PI 4.6, it's a direct bolt-on replacement, and it should put you at or above stock 4.6-PI power (it will jump your compression ratio up to about 10.5:1 compared with the standard PI's compression ratio of somewhere near 9.7:1). the non-PI 4.6 (before '99) came standard with somewhere around 220 bhp i think, but the '99-'04 PI 4.6 came standard with about 260 bhp. one of the guys at Modular Powerhouse told me that you can expect about 15% drivetrain losses, so that should give you an idea of where you stand compared to stock if you ever put it on a dyno (take the rwhp and divide by .85 to estimate your bhp, although bhp in general is a pretty useless figure).
i'm not sure what your budget is, but you should be able to find a '99-'04 Mustang in great shape below $10k. When I got my car new (it's a 2002 GT), i averaged about 25-26 mpg highway driving, and about 17-19 city driving. after i put a Steeda cat-back and BBK cold-air intake, highway mileage jumped up to about 27-28 mpg, but city driving actually dropped a bit, maybe 1 or 2 mpg. since then i've put a new throttle body, plenum, and 3.73 gears in it (stock is 3.22 or 3.27, can't remember the exact ratio), and my mileage has gotten a little worse, but not too terribly. my in-town fuel economy stayed about the same, but highway dropped to about 23-25 mpg, not a significant drop unless you put a TON of miles on your car.
if you've got any specific questions feel free to ask. [8D]

alright well thanks on the advice of that ill have to look into a 99 or up because i really like the newer body style but wasnt sure about the performance, and mileage because i get great performance out of my 5.0 and can work on it easily but the gas mileage sucks only getting around 13-14mph and dont drive highway much

i think that car is over priced. plus you mentioned that it a full saleen clone. it doesn't look like one to me. if it's a clone everything from body to interior are saleen parts. correct me if i'm wrong.
