Any advantages or disadvantages to using Premium Gasoline in my Mustang GT?
I have a 2000 Mustang GT, swapped engine from previous owner he told me it has dual overhead cams in it but i cant tell if it does or not, anyway my friend said i would get better performance and keep the engine runing cleaner by using premium gasoline, i just need to know if thats true or could it be screwing up the engine?

got a pic of the engine bay?
more than likely you just have the 4.6l 2v in that case 87 octane is all you need, anything more and your just wasting your $$$

It sounds like you don't know what type of motor you have. Running premium gas will not hurt a 2v motor, it just adds unnecessary costs to your driving. Normally running premium gas will not do anything unless you have retuned the car for it. Higher octane fuel allows you to run more timing without having detonation. If you are running a 4v Dual Overhead Cam motor then I believe you should be running 93 octane fuel. Ihave heardthey were tuned for it from the factory.
Dual Overhead Cams actually means 4 overhead cams; two on each head. The standard 2000 GT 4.6 is called a single overhead cam engine because it has one cam per head.
My recommendation would be to run premium gas until you find out what kind of motor you have. Post a picture of the motor.

Yea, I forgot that bit of info. I am running a 93 tune. You also have to factor in what brand and location of gas you are running. In the Maryland area, the gas stations near and in Washington D.C. and Baltimore areas have extra additives to reduce pollutants. if I am not mistaken I think they add 10% of ethanol and something else. When you get 30 miles away from the cities there is no extra additives. also, at cheap cheap gas stations (walmart/safeway brans or other nonames), you are not getting the advertised octane. All of the cheap gas stations get there gas from what's left over in the pipeline whenthe gas gets sent from the refinery. So you might get a mix of 83+desol+some 89 (small amounts) thus creating it "cheap." Typically a good gas station (exxon) will send there gas through the pipe after a cheap gas station gets there 83 because the cheap gas station's gas "cleans" out the pipe. sorry for ranting, but it could cause some problems with you car running.
