Will it ever whine???
What's up guys? Just got my 3:73 gears installed today and so far no whine. I bought the Richmond gears and I was afraid becasue I have heard that the Richmond gears are notorious for whining but so far smooth as silk. It's only been one day but if there is a problem, will they start whining after a certain amount of miles or will I be okay?

If they don't whine from the beginning and there are no defective parts i.e bearings or races, everything should work out great for you. Gears made a huge difference didn't they?

i disagree, i got my gears installed and no whine, then sure enough about a week later a faint whine, and then it all went down from there, gears are the hardest thing to get installed right

the rep richmond gets is bs to an extent. no gear should whine UNLESS put in improperly. richmond may be harder to set the backlash and stuff to than other gears (i dont know that for sure, but it seems logical) which could lean to their reputation, but it doesnt mean they automatically whine just because they are made by richmond. if installed properly no gear will(should) whine. dont hammer on it just yet, give your car a little time to wear in the shims and bearings properly. i've heard anything from a tank of gas, to 500 miles of normal driving, to heat the gears up in city driving and let them cool down 3 times. when i get mine put in (HOPEFULLY within the next couple weeks pending my work schedule) i'm gonna burn a tank of gas city driving and if no noises, call them good.
