X Pipe Install

X Pipe Install
Here is the situation : (I know this thread probably should be in the SVT section, but that doesn't get as much attention as this section does.) We are installing a Bassani O/RX Pipe on a 2001 SVT Cobra, with stock manifolds and stock cat back. The X pipeis a three piece design. I can tell there is an exhaust leak at the passenger side manifold, it sounds like a clicking and a loss of back pressure AKA exhaust leak, I presume. So my question was has anyone had the same trouble with their car, when installing the x pipe? I hope it is just a matter of tightening the bolts to theexhaust manifold more. It is weird because bassani makes the three piece design so the owner can slide cats on it if needed and in place of the pipes. The pipes areheld in placewith clamps as of right now. Two side notes, smoke is coming from the manifolds when he revs it and I'm not sure if this was because the engine was cold but when we started the first time, once it was on, gas spewed out the exhaust when he revved like a puddle as carb engine would do. Any help would be appreciated we are getting up bright and early tomorrow to work on it. Thanks, ahead of time.

RE: X Pipe Install
We didn't check to see if it had a gasket. I did a x pipe install on my car and it did not havea gasket so I figured it was the same way, but I could be wrong thanks for the info.

RE: X Pipe Install
You should have a gasket on the passenger side, although I have always just reused them with no problems. You probably just didn't see it because a lot of the time it will be stuck to the manifold or the stock h-pipe. Are you sure that there was gas pouring out of the tailpipes, or could it have been water? If you didn't do anything about the rear O2's I suppose that you could be running really rich..........but you would have a check engine light.

Yes I'll check in the morning, it might not have been gas either i didn't check, the car had been sitting on jack stands in a garage of about 45 degrees for 4 or so hrs if that helps. Thanks for the info tho.

RE: X Pipe Install
That was definitely condensation, so nothing to worry about. Also, be sure that when you are tightening the nuts onto the manifold studs that the x-pipe is pulling in tight and flush with the manifold. Sometimes the nut on the manifold stud runs out of thread before it is tight, in this case you must place a washer(s) between the the nut and the x-pipe flange and then tighten it down. I have never installed a Bassani kit, but I know that I have run into this problem with BBK. Good Luck.
