Can you mod. the 4.6L v8
I just bought and 02 gt with the 4.6L v8. I've heard that since the 4.6 is a "throw-away" engine, that moding it would destroy the engine. I've also heard the opposite; that you have to build up the engine evenly. So how would go about moding it without destroying the engine. Also, is there any suggested maintence other than of couse oil changes and what not that are required or that are just overall wise to do.

look thru these thread you will find the 4.6 to be very dependable and modifiable(spell???)
i just sold my 91 lincoln 190,000 miles and it ran like a new
i remember reading a few years ago that the 5.4 (similar technolagy) was one of the ten best engines ever

I dunno what you have herd but my engine seems to be holding up pretty good. I have had it for 2 years and it has gone through many shots of nitrous and has been supercharged for 15k at 10lbs and i run it pretty hard.

wow you've heard some pretty false statements, the 4.6L is very modable and a very very reliable engine.
if the engine is in a mustang its gonna have aftermarket value

afyer around 420ish+ rwhp they will start to have problems maby, but other then that u can bolt on whatever u want and it will run just fine for 100k and much more. maby u herd that they dont respond well to mods? or that they arent worth moding?

Do yourself a favor and never listen to the person that told you the 4.6 was a "throw away engine"
And how do build up an "engine evenly". Not to many people building up the Left side of the engine before the Right[8D]

It's possible the person you were talking to is horrible at communicating the point he wanted to get across to you.
MANY people have said, and a lot will agree, that the 4.6 (or at least the 2V version available from 96-04) is a 'throw your money away at' motor. They don't benefit greatly from small bolt-ons such as exhaust/intake work.
While that is true, a lot of those impressions come from what the car is being compared to, and that is usually older, larger displacement pushrod motors.
But as has been said above, it's probably in your best interest to not listen to anything else that person or persons tells you about the 4.6 family. The 4.6 motors might not be the most powerful motors in the domestic market, but they're certainly capable of lasting quite some time if maintained properly.
There really are not any super sercret maintenance tips either. Change the fluids on time, replace filters when necessary, and try not to beat the **** out of the cars every chance you get and they'll last 'forever'.
