looking at an 02 mustang GT
I was wondering, i found an 02 mustang GT, yellow, 17" bullitt factory rims, power sunroof, leather, mach sound, rear spoiler, carfax certified, steeda cold air intake, roush gear shift lever, ..its 12,995 and it has 46,000 miles and its a 5 spd..
is that a good deal? also should i buy one already modded or try and find one not modded.. it looks very good but it is 120 miles away and i want to get some input before i travel to really see it..

RE: looking at an 02 mustang GT
I just bought an '02 GT black 5 spd with 13k miles and 3.73 gears (k+n filter, too) for 16k to put perspective on the market. No sun roof on mine, all leather int. though and the mach system, spoiler, nice rims (dunno which ones exactly, but I think they're the upgraded ones from factory).. kept in perfect shape, too; garaged and adult driven. Nver driven in snow.
Only problem with it that I've found since buying it is the molding that keeps the glass waterproof on the trunk is coming undone.

cool.. how strong are these motors? do they still perform well high mileage like 100k+ ?? if i get one it will be below 50,000 miles.. i will immediately change the oil to mobil 1 fully synthetic, and get some fully synthetic tranny fluid as well, get a k&N fipk immediately, and probably get some sort of tune up just so im sure i get it strong and keep it as reliable as possible.

well, this is just my opinion,, but you said that you were looking for input ..so here's mine...
for a 2002, the mileage isnt that great,,, i would look for something maybe in the 99-00 range (if you dont mind the faker looking hood scoop) with about 20-30K miles, and around that same price range,,, that way you know it has had less miles each year, obvioulsy.
Also, my input on the whole buying a car with and without mods.... i would certainly NOT buy a car with some performance upgrades already done to it,, unless they were very recent and had few miles on the car with them installed.. because why do people modify cars? ...to make them fast.. how do you drive fast? you drive hard... thats my logic...
plus, 120 miles is quite a way to drive just to 'look' at something, shop around, see what you can find, and good luck..

Yeah I got screwed on my ranger when I bought it... I bought it for like 18 new in 03 and I owed like 13,700 still and they gave me 11,000 for it. So with tax title and pay off my payment is 341 a month with 2 grand down. I am 19 and my dad co-signed my ranger, I have had a few credit lines but nothing that great and they financed me without a problem alone. But it was a very high volume dealer with a very good history so that helped but I don't think I would have been turned down anywhere else. So all together my new GT was 17 for an 03.
Make sure you poor water all over that sunroof becuase I don't think they produced any with one. I could be wrong but I haven't ever seen one from the factory. If it is aftermarket then it may leak like no other and that would be really gay. Try to talk to the previous owner. Is it at a dealer? If so tell them to put it up on the racks and just go over everything even if you don't know what the hell you are looking at becuase if something is wrong and you get close to it and there is a tech there they will probably point it out. If it is a ford dealer there techs get paid to work by the car most of the time and he is looking for just as much wrong as you are so don't be afriad to ask anything no matter how stupid it is.

For one... with a car loan sorter is better becuase of interest rates...
Two the older the car the harder a bank trys to stop you from buying becuase if it is older it means it has more miles on it. And a bank has a hard time financing things close to 100,000 miles (which isn't a problem on this car)
Three 120 miles for a GT is pretty far due to the fact that they are everywhere... just wait and dont jump into anything. I almost bought a 99 cobra with a bad tranny because it was so sweet but I am a lot happier with my GT for a bunch of reasons.
Last I wouldn't do anything over 60 mos on a loan becuase the interest is going to bend you over.
And if you are going to look at a 99-00' GT just look for a 99 or 01' cobra (99 probably they ddin't hold there value as much) becuase I found a few for 12,000 wiht like 60,000 miles on it. Miles mean a lot but if you don't put that many milse on a car you might be able to get one wiht higher miles.
