How do you feel about the (new?) Mobil 1 extended performance oils?
I think theyre new or at least the commercials might be. But whats up with them, No oil changes for 15K miles with the extended performance sythetic. Supposedly it has more cleaning agents than their regular synth. Even the Mobil 1 Clean is Dino oil and its rated up to 5K or 7.5K depending on which one you pick. Think their reliable enough to put in our stangs and go that long b/w oil changes. It also says if you buy their oil filters you dont have to change filters til the oil either. It sounds sweet, but do I believe what they're saying?

Yeah I also have a hard time believing that you can go that long on a oil. Now don't get me wrong i would bet that the oil will last that long (not break down) but I am worried about the dirt and grit that gets into your oil from driveing it how does it protect your motor from all that if you let it build up for 15k miles? Not me i change every 4-5k miles on a sythentic oil (I perfer Castrol Syntex 5w30).

IMHO, just change the oil every 3K for regular or 5K for synthetic (including filter). Don't buy into the hype about the 7.5k-10k oil change. Oil is cheap insurance your engine runs strong for many years.

Ya, i wouldnt play around with that oil
just change it like normal....its only about 30$ and like he said.....its insurance for your engine!

yea ive seen those commercials with the 5k,10k, and 15k oils. I personally wouldnt stop doing it every 3k. Its hard to believe that a few little changes can make oil last that long...then again it could be possible. its not that much of a hassle either.

considering i use to be a deisel mechanic the trucks ran 15,000 before it got changed......besides it's your filter that needs changed
when a filter loses it's performance then so does your oil.

I used to work at Napa Heavy Duty Truck and even Disel 3/4 ton pickups use a ton of oil. That's why you don't have to change them that often.
Oil in those big rigs is like 3-4 gallons right?

I also used to work on Diesels (mostly the Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesels), and we used Amsoil w/ Amsoil Filters. We did oil change intervals about every 15k-20k with no problems what so ever, and that's with engines that work just as hard, if not harder with more carbon deposits that reside in the oil.
I am willing to bet you can leave the oil in there, but as someone else had mentioned, just change the filter every 3-5k, and the oil should be just fine....
