Idle.
My honda was like that, sometime the revs would drop so low that the car looked like it was off if you looked at the cluster and other times it would be at 1100rpms. Usually it just ends up being a combantion of things that makes the computer on the car happy, enough voltage being produced the efficiancy of the burn what accessories are on. Stuff like that. That's not abnormal to see rpm changes like that either.

you may wanna check your IAC valve and solenoid (Idle Air Control) also your feedback system could be faulty remove and test your EGR (Exhaust GasRecirculation) regulator solenoid and lightly blow into the top hole if air flows through it, its faulty i had the same problem which was remedied by cleaning my IAC and replacing the EVR (Exhaust Vacuum Regulator) or EGR regulator solenoid i wouldrecommend purchasing a chilton manual which is great for troubleshooting and testing components

Intake spacer could cause that. Bad EGR is a likely cause. Unplug vacuum line toEGR and see if it smooths out, if so, there's your culprit. Basically any unmetered air entering after the MAF can cause the idle to surge. Check for any air leaks, especially if you have modded anything on the intake recently. Usually if it is the EGR, it will tend to surge more after the car is warmed up and idling rather than when it is cold such as first start of morning. IAC is a good one too. That one is known to be an issue on some of the early 4.6s, some even to the point of stalling at idle or rarely at speed.

Good luck finding it! Post the final culprit here so we can start getting some more technical answers rather than all anti street racing preaching, kill stories, what mod? arguments, and "ricer" bashing. Be good to build a knowledge base...

Agree with all posts above, especially the one I am quoting here. Have the same problem a few weeks ago I fix it. I bought an OBD II decoder, attached to the computer and got a code # with the message Air speed control valve error, bought a new IAC for $80.00 , install it myself and the car now is like new again. Those OBD II decoders are handy, a good investment if you are a do-it-yourself person, it would save you a lot of $$$$.

Check the OBD II scanners here:
