1996 PCM

1996 PCM
just took my car to the dealer for a mysterious idle and stumbling during acceleration.
They hook up the pcm and it reads a 4 cylinder escort....
gonna need to get a new pcm before anything can be diagnosed i guess. im gonna look for one at a junkyard. is 1994-1997 the same pcm? i think for some reason that 1998 is different. then obviously 99 on is different.
do i need a 96 gt pcm or what are the years that i could use?
Thanks

RE: 1996 PCM
You can't use the 1994-1995. They have a different motor. I don't see why you wouldn'tbe able to use either the 96 or 97, but if I were you I would get a1996 specific PCM just to be on the safe side.

RE: 1996 PCM
You can use a 96-98 PCM. There is a minor difference with the 98. The 98 has a slightly more aggressive program giving you about 10 hp over the 96 or 97.Keep in mind that you will have to program the key and PATS module when you replace the PCM. Also, make sure you match the donor car's transmission type to your transmission type.
The PATS and transmission type can be changed if you use a tuner program or you can have the dealership program them. (usually expensive) I have a GT PCM (auto trans) withPATS module, ign lock, and key for sale if you are interested.
